It’s no secret that modern women face a multitude of obstacles in terms of time management. Naturally, we have become masters in the art of rushing between our hobbies, education and work. In our effort to “have it all,” modern women have become one giant balancing act. In fact, according to a study published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, today’s population in general maintains higher stress levels than it did 25 years ago. The study identified women specifically as being the most prone to stress. After a long day or a late work shift, it’s natural to want to blow off some steam. Spending time socializing has been scientifically proven to alleviate stress and improve your mood. As a person that does not dispute natural human inclinations or scientific fact, I believe going out is healthy. Junior strategic communication major Katie Brinton said, “I like to cut loose at the end of a long week. It gives me something to look forward to.” Many students agree with Brinton. However, being hard pressed for time makes presents a challenge when it comes to getting ready. “I don’t like feeling stressed when I get home and my roommates are already ready for the night. It makes me feel like they’re waiting on me, which makes me flustered.” Said junior business major Mackenzie Bauer. After two years of college I have become a pro in transforming my daytime to nighttime makeup in 10 minutes with just a few simple tricks.
Things you will need: Foundation, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, eye shadow applicator, eye shadow brush, eyeliner, eyelash curler, mascara, translucent setting powder (or baby powder), toothbrush, lipstick, baby oil. (price and quality are up to your discretion)
1. Since I don’t start from raw material, otherwise known as my naked face. For foundation lightly reapply your regular amount and set with a translucent powder Example: I use Mac Studio Fix. Apply bronzer or blush as normal before using setting powder.
2. For eyes that pop in low lighting, up the ante with a thicker brushstroke on eyeliner. Take a small eye shadow applicator and rub the edge against your normal eyeliner pencil or dip into liquid eyeliner. Then start on the outside of your eyes and work your way in. Example: I use NYC liquid liner or Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream (black)
3. Don’t have fake lashes? First crimp your lashes, once at the root lightly and then firmly at the ends. Then apply a coat of mascara. Take a small eye shadow brush and apply a translucent setting powder on the wet coat of mascara. Wait a minute, and then apply another coat of mascara. Repeat until you are content with how full they look. Example: I use L’Oreal Hydra Perfecte Setting Powder
4. For full lips take your toothbrush and lightly exfoliate your lips with the bristles for one minute. Then apply a deep shade of your normal lip hue. I am a firm believer that deep shades are a nighttime must. The fresh layer of skin will absorb the color better and give you a longer wear. Example: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Fabulous Fig
5. To highlight shoulders and collarbones, find a glittery bronzer (preferably loose powder) and mix a teaspoon of powder with a tablespoon of baby oil in your hands. Rub until mixed and apply to shoulders and neckline to enhance your dull daytime skin. Example: I use Maybelline Mineral Power Bronzer and Johnson’s Cocoa and Shea Butter Baby Oil
6. If your hair does look worn, put some baby powder on the roots and give it a light brush through. If that doesn’t work, try a teased up do to hide roots. Example: I use Johnson’s Magnolia Blossom Baby Powder
Words from the wise, otherwise known as me: Remember to ·
-Take off your makeup at the end of the night (heavy makeup clogs pores and ages your skin if not removed) ·
-Drink 8 Oz of water or more and take an aspirin before sleep.
-Find a moisturizer that fits your skin- wear it the following morning. Hydration after a night out is key.
-According to Livestrong, com, massaging your forehead, temples, jawline, and the area under your eyes for 20 seconds increases blood flow in the face and leaves the skin radiant.
-For healthier, thicker lashes long term, apply Vaseline or olive oil on lash hairs. These oils promote growth and healthy strands and keep your lashes healthy long term.
