I will never understand how some ladies can get ready while standing up, but for those of us who like to have a readily available station with seating included and amazing organization with some added pizazz, this one is for you.
The DIY trend has taken the world by storm, so why not get crafty in the place where you make yourself up for a night out? Vanity stations are always in need of organization ideas for all the makeup products, hair styling tools, brushes or anything and everything you deem necessary.
All-Hail The Mason Jar Scrolling Pinterest, arguably the best place to look for anything female related, it is impossible to miss all of the amazing projects you can start with just a mason jar. On a vanity, makeup brushes, cotton balls, and q-tips must all be easily accessible while getting dolled-up. There are so many ways to decorate them, but here’s a few of the best:
· Mod Podge and glitter
· Mod Podge and tissue paper
· Puffy Paint
· Rhinestones
· Colored sand in the bottom (to hold makeup brushes up)
· Fish bowl stones in the bottom (to hold makeup brushes up)
I personally went with the puffy paint method.
Decorate Your Mirror “I was browsing at Target one day on the search for a new mirror, and I found that they have ridiculous prices for what they are. I mean it’s just a reflection maker,” said Kaiya Bahr, a junior at WSU.
A mirror is to a vanity as a centerpiece is to a dining room table; it claims all attention and it’s the first thing that you see. You may see a decorative mirror at a store for upwards of $40 and think to yourself, I could make that. And you’re right! One of the cutest ideas is to buy a simple square mirror with a thicker frame, paint it, and add your own spin to it by hot-gluing rhinestones, flowers or anything else you can get your hands on.
Re-Think In Drawer Makeup Organization “I’m really sick of having to dig through this basket looking for my makeup,” said Holly Larson, a junior at WSU, “I can never find what I need so I’m always running late.”
One of the best things you can do to de-clutter your life and make it so much easier to find what you need while getting ready is organizing your beauty products. And get this: all you’ll need is a silverware drawer organizing tray. Each section can be used for different products, like brushes, mascara, eyeliner, or lipsticks. This simple idea has completely transformed my makeup organization and an added bonus is the in-drawer part, giving your vanity a sleeker look.
It’s no secret that modern women face a multitude of obstacles in terms of time management. Naturally, we have become masters in the art of rushing between our hobbies, education and work. In our effort to “have it all,” modern women have become one giant balancing act. In fact, according to a study published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, today’s population in general maintains higher stress levels than it did 25 years ago. The study identified women specifically as being the most prone to stress. After a long day or a late work shift, it’s natural to want to blow off some steam. Spending time socializing has been scientifically proven to alleviate stress and improve your mood. As a person that does not dispute natural human inclinations or scientific fact, I believe going out is healthy. Junior strategic communication major Katie Brinton said, “I like to cut loose at the end of a long week. It gives me something to look forward to.” Many students agree with Brinton. However, being hard pressed for time makes presents a challenge when it comes to getting ready. “I don’t like feeling stressed when I get home and my roommates are already ready for the night. It makes me feel like they’re waiting on me, which makes me flustered.” Said junior business major Mackenzie Bauer. After two years of college I have become a pro in transforming my daytime to nighttime makeup in 10 minutes with just a few simple tricks.
Things you will need: Foundation, bronzer, blush, eyeliner, eye shadow applicator, eye shadow brush, eyeliner, eyelash curler, mascara, translucent setting powder (or baby powder), toothbrush, lipstick, baby oil. (price and quality are up to your discretion)
1. Since I don’t start from raw material, otherwise known as my naked face. For foundation lightly reapply your regular amount and set with a translucent powder Example: I use Mac Studio Fix. Apply bronzer or blush as normal before using setting powder.
2. For eyes that pop in low lighting, up the ante with a thicker brushstroke on eyeliner. Take a small eye shadow applicator and rub the edge against your normal eyeliner pencil or dip into liquid eyeliner. Then start on the outside of your eyes and work your way in. Example: I use NYC liquid liner or Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream (black)
3. Don’t have fake lashes? First crimp your lashes, once at the root lightly and then firmly at the ends. Then apply a coat of mascara. Take a small eye shadow brush and apply a translucent setting powder on the wet coat of mascara. Wait a minute, and then apply another coat of mascara. Repeat until you are content with how full they look. Example: I use L’Oreal Hydra Perfecte Setting Powder
4. For full lips take your toothbrush and lightly exfoliate your lips with the bristles for one minute. Then apply a deep shade of your normal lip hue. I am a firm believer that deep shades are a nighttime must. The fresh layer of skin will absorb the color better and give you a longer wear. Example: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Fabulous Fig
5. To highlight shoulders and collarbones, find a glittery bronzer (preferably loose powder) and mix a teaspoon of powder with a tablespoon of baby oil in your hands. Rub until mixed and apply to shoulders and neckline to enhance your dull daytime skin. Example: I use Maybelline Mineral Power Bronzer and Johnson’s Cocoa and Shea Butter Baby Oil
6. If your hair does look worn, put some baby powder on the roots and give it a light brush through. If that doesn’t work, try a teased up do to hide roots. Example: I use Johnson’s Magnolia Blossom Baby Powder
Words from the wise, otherwise known as me: Remember to ·
-Take off your makeup at the end of the night (heavy makeup clogs pores and ages your skin if not removed) · -Drink 8 Oz of water or more and take an aspirin before sleep. -Find a moisturizer that fits your skin- wear it the following morning. Hydration after a night out is key. -According to Livestrong, com, massaging your forehead, temples, jawline, and the area under your eyes for 20 seconds increases blood flow in the face and leaves the skin radiant. -For healthier, thicker lashes long term, apply Vaseline or olive oil on lash hairs. These oils promote growth and healthy strands and keep your lashes healthy long term.
As young women, we are always looking for new ways to prettify our appearance. Maybe we were not born perfectly to comparing with the current standards of beauty, and you don’t want to spend money on cosmetic surgery. However, we don’t need to worry about that in this day and age, because we have cosmetics and girls don’t need to worry about their “appearance” any more.
Different people like different makeup, and different occasions also need appropriate makeup. I will introduce the most popular makeup styles and recommend various cosmetics to everyone. And if you have any question or suggestion, you can leave comments below the post. I’ m willing to share everything about makeup here!
Personally speaking, I prefer Asian makeup style than Western countries style maybe because I come from China. For Asian girls, we don’t have three-dimensional facial features like European girls. So we should not use too many different colors for the eyes part as well as the cheek. I highly recommend that Asian girls try Korean Ulzzang makeup style or Japanese Harajuku makeup style. I am a crazy fan for Korean Ulzzang makeup style, it is not only because I can wear it for school days but also easy to learn and it doesn’t take your too much time everyday.
Every girl has the unique opinion for daily makeup. I interviewed two of my friends about the concept of makeup. I asked about six questions and they are do you like make-up? How often do you make-up? What do you think make-up means to girls? What kinds of make-up style do you like best? And why? Which fashion or make-up blog is your favorite website? And why? If you can only choose one thing to use when you going to date with your boy, what would you like to choose? (BB cream or foundation, eye line, mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, etc.)
Jesse Kim, 23, said she wears makeup on weekdays only. Kim is a Korean born in the United State, and she also has her personal beauty blog. “I think make up is one of the many privilege that girls have transform themselves as whoever they want to be.” Kim said, “I love natural beauty and I would choose CC cream for the basic daily makeup, because it has the light coverage and many different skin protection added into it. It is the most natural looking product that I have ever used.”
Carmen Pacheco holds a totally different opinion from Kim. Pacheco is 23 and she is a local resident from Washington State. She said she wears makeup everyday because it means confidence for girls. “I like a smoky eye with catwing eyeliner because it really makes my eyes stand out.” Pacheco said, “I will choose mascara to make my eyes pop if I can only choose one thing.”
The diversity between Eastern culture and Western culture can totally represent by makeup. Thus, I will pay more attention on Asian makeup style in the blog. I hope you guys can enjoy some new stuff about Asian style from my blog. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
Let's be real, we aren't all morning people. And even if we all were, it wouldn't necessarily make taming morning hair any easier. You know what I'm talking about... Crooked hair parts, stubborn fly aways, and uneven, fluffy volume.
I know that I'm sick and tired of dealing with messy hair during my daily morning hustle and bustle. If you're anything like me (and I think a lot of us are), you probably want easy, quick solutions and hair styles to tame the beast otherwise known as "morning hair."
A simple way to prevent morning hair is to start at the root of the problem, which, ironically, is the root of the hair. Ensuring that your hair is completely dry before you lay down to sleep at night will make a dramatic difference in the way your hair looks when you wake up.
"A lot of people just don't realize that the roots are stubborn. The position their hair dries in is the position it will stay in all day," said Austin Watanabe, certified hair stylist.
Austin is a fantastic hairdresser that consistently does wonders for my hair. Another solution that Austin swears by is to add a deep conditioning treatment to your hair care regimen. Dry hair is difficult to style and work with. Moisturizing your hair does wonders. Make sure to massage the conditioner into your scalp to really keep your locks lustrous. I use ___.
Waking up with tamed hair isn't always enough. A lot of the time, I like to style my hair because if I look good, I will feel good, and I will do good. I believe that the way I start my day will carry on throughout the day. That's why I want to look like I spent hours on my hair. Honestly though, there just isn't enough time.
Tiffany Sakamoto, a junior at Washington State University, is a prime example of the typical college girl. Tiff wants to look pretty while on a time budget and without all the effort.
"I just need something fast, cute, and easy to do in the mornings because I want to sleep in as long as possible," said Tiff.
My all time favorite "I really have no time this morning" hairstyle is the inverted ponytail because it looks chic and keeps the hair out of my face. All you need to do is tie your hair in a regular ponytail, put your index finger and thumb between your scalp and the hair tie, and pull your entire ponytail through.
I hope this helps you defeat the case of the messy, unruly morning hair! We all want to look and feel fabulous daily, and honestly, we deserve to. Stick around for more fun hair tips, beauty advice, and more!
The stress of getting ready to go back to school can be hard to manage sometimes. Everything from choosing classes to moving into your new home can seem overwhelming and the last thing you want to worry about is what you have to wear. Throwing on Uggs and yoga pants seems like the easiest thing to do but somehow I never feel prepared for my day when I do this. I took some time and asked girls what are the issues the face in getting ready for school. “When I have an early class I don’t want to have to get up even earlier and think about what to wear.” – Stephanie Smolinski.
Most people face the same problem, they want to look pulled together but don’t want to take the time and effort to do it. “I wish I was more motivated to get ready for class, but I just want to throw on something easy.” – Mirna Garcia. However, I have found that if you have a few staples in your closet you will feel completely prepared and look great with out the hassle when classes start.
1) Black Skinny Pants - Which can be anything from leggings to jeans. Black goes with everything and usually is the most flattering color. My favorite right now are BDG from Urban outfitters they are a great price and a great fit.
2)Chunky Sweater – I am a sucker for cableknit sweaters so those are always my go to. I usually like mine a little bigger so they can be great for layering. I keep my colors a little more basic so I go for a charcoal grey color, but the choice is entirely up to you.
3) Cargo Jacket - You can choose the color and detailing for this one! Mine is black with a cool studded pattern on the back.
4) Cozy-Comfy Scarf – I usually like a scarf to be 2 things. The first is cashmere because a scarf is meant to keep you warm and that is the best material. The other is an infiniti style because you can wrap it around your neck a few times and it comes in just about every color. My favorite color combo is grey with black stripes.
5) Cool Kicks - My go to right now are white converse and pull on black short booties. Really, it just depends on the weather when I decide which ones to wear.
6) Favorite T – This one has taken me a while to find but usually I know I will like it if it is lightweight, V-neck, loose and a soft material. When I find the ones I love though I will buy it in every color.
7) Backpack – Normally, when I hear this word I think of the Lisa Frank purple cheetah print backpacks (if you’re a 90’s baby you know what I am talking about). Lucky for us though this style has definitely evolved and now it can really be anything from an actually backpack to a tote bag. It just needs to be something that will actually fit what you need for class. I carry a big black tote that way I can put everything I need in it, plus no matter what crazy colors I decide to wear it goes with everything and looks good.
Hopefully this was helpful and now you can get dressed for class with ease and style. - By Alex Willis
